December 3rd, 2011 by johnshinn

Sooners trail 24-3

December 3rd, 2011 by johnshinn

Oklahoma’s first-half disaster is finally over. Michael Hunnicutt’s 47-yard field goal kept the Sooners from being shutout. Other than that, the opening 30 minutes was a complete calamity for OU.
Offense has been stagnant with Landry Jones throwing an interception that set up an OSU field goal and fumbling to set up a touchdown. There’s been no sense of offensive balance. OU’s run 48 play, 38 were passing attempts. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have clearly established their running game. Joseph Randle has 11 carries for 69 yards.
If OU doesn’t close the gap quickly in the third quarter, this game will be over quickly.

It was the second Sooner turnover. OU needed to win the turnover battle to have a chance. Cowboys have already scored 10 points off turnovers.

Sooners off to lethargic start

December 3rd, 2011 by johnshinn

The Sooners trial 10-0 early in the second quarter. The offense has been stagnant to say the least. Three possessions, three punts. Meanwhile the Cowboys have established the run and outside of a late hit by linebacker Tom Wort, there’s been little pressure on OSU quarterback Brandon Weeden.
Don’t know what a nightmare start would have exactly been for OU. Outside of getting a bunch of players hurt in the first quarter it probably looked a lot like this.

Cowboys take the lead

December 3rd, 2011 by johnshinn

OSU just had a pretty easy 4-play, 68-yard drive to take a 7-point lead. Sooner defense looked very shaky. The 68-yard pass from Brandon Weeden to Tracy Moore was the drive’s big play, but OSU scored on a 9-yard touchdown run.

OU is about to punt again after a three-and-out. Quarterback Landry Jones has taken big hits on his last two pass attempts. Cowboys blitzed heavily on third down.

Sooners move Jefferson to safety

December 3rd, 2011 by johnshinn

Tony Jefferson is playing strong safety on OU’s first defensive series. Joseph Ibiloye is at the nickel spot. That appears to be the only personnel adjustment from last week.
OSU is working hard to establish the run early.

Landry Jones has decided to try to milk more Bedlam magic out of tight end James Hanna. Just tried to force the ball into quadruple coverage on third down. Sooners were lucky to still be able to punt.
