Football anyone?

Timberwolves or Tigers?
Sooners or Cowboys? (I probably already know.)
Yankees or Red Sox?
Tiger or Phil?
In a world with a lot of things going on that are more important than sports, it sure is nice to be able to step out of that real world for an hour or two and cheer on our favorite team.
Whoever that may be.
We’ll be using this space in the coming weeks and months to discuss all genres of sports, from local to national, team to individual, the thrills of victory and the agonies of defeat. We’re looking for solid opinions and information, and debate is welcomed and expected.
Let’s get to it.

No doubt, Sam Bradford is the best quarterback in the Big 12 Conference. Period. End of story.
In fact, that trophy he brought back from New York after last season would pretty much be the best argument that he’s the best quarterback in all of college football.
But he’s not the most valuable quarterback in the state of Oklahoma. That title goes to Zac Robinson, the signal-caller 85 miles to the northeast in Stillwater.
Look at it like this. If Bradford goes down, OU still has great running backs, the best tight end in college football and what is looking like it could be one of the best defenses in the Bob Stoops era. Even with a backup quarterback in there they will be favored to win nearly every game.
If OSU loses Robinson, look out. Their backups don’t look as talented as OU’s, and while they do have a handful of star players around — see Dez Bryant, college football’s best wide receiver — the road gets a ton tougher without Robinson. What OSU folks are touting as a possible breakthrough season could wind up with about a 7-5 record in a hurry without their signal-caller.
Robinson has battled a hamstring injury during preseason practice but has been back on the field the last couple of weeks. With him in there, look for the Cowboys to take a big step forward this weekend by knocking off SEC power Georgia.
Meanwhile, OU has far too much talent in its season opener for a Brigham Young team that will go win a lot of games themselves this year but won’t see another squad as good as the Sooners. Look for OU to pick up a smooth 24-point win in Jerry Jones’ new stadium and head on in hopes of bigger and better things.
