1408 is one of the great ghost stories of the past 15 years, a film about a cynical writer who debunks spooky places but bites off more than he can chew when he checks into Room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel.

A classic horror film that’s still scary, after all these years.

Cast — Oskar: Kåre Hedebrant; Eli: Lina Leandersson; Håkan: Per Ragnar.
Directed by: Tomas Alfredson
Synopsis: Oskar, who’s bullied at school in 1980s Sweden, has no friends until he meets the new neighbor girl, Eli, who hides a dark secret, and an insatiable hunger for blood.
Jeff Johncox says:
This is one of the best vampire movies ever made. There’s more to it than just strict horror, but there’s also plenty of the creepy and crawly.
I love the child actors in this, and Alfredson delivers every step of the way with suspenseful direction.
Ragnar probably plays the creepiest character in the film, but you also empathize with him, and it’s that dichotomy that makes this a truly great horror film and a perfect way to kick off our 13 Reviews of Halloween.
Adam Scott says:
Really good visuals. Alfredson’s doing a really good job of striking a balance between the arty and the quirky in this, sort of borrowing from both of those veins of filmmaking and produces something that’s neat to look at but also keeps you interested in the storyline at the same time.
The bullying, in the historical context, is not too far off from historically accurate. Making the bullies as vicious as they are in this movie but convincingly so using an American cast could present some real challenges.
Tomorrow, Day 2: Poltergeist
Adam hears strange noises in the dark before the Geeks go see the scariest film of the year.

TNT Movie Geeks Blog
Welcome to the new TNT Movie Geeks Web page! I’ll be regularly posting on here, and every week we’ll have our new video up!
The best news of the week? The Warren Theater in Moore finally, FINALLY got Paranormal Activity! So, we’ll have our new show up Friday night for you, just in time to watch before you head out to the late screenings, muaahaahaaa.
It’s the most talked about film of the fall, and I think you can tell my Halloween-addled mind is feverishly awaiting it.
Feel free to comment on any of the terrible little shows we throw up here. You can find our old shows at dailymotion.com/normantranscript, too. We started with Wall-E, and it feels like a long, long time ago (looks like it, too).
